Abstract

PURPOSE: To render a sintered alloy for a valve seat applicable to all kinds of fuel by dispersing a specified amount of hard alloy particles based on Ni-Mo in a matrix metal and carrying out powder forging to enhance the density and improve the heat conductivity.
CONSTITUTION: Matrix alloy powder consisting of, by wt., 0.3W1.3% C, 0.2W 1.5% Si, 2.0W10.0% Ni, 1.5W10.0% Mo and the balance essentially Fe is mixed, compacted, and sintered. This sintered body is reheated, press forged, and subjected to heat treatments such as hardening and tempering. Thus, 5W20% hard alloy particles based on Ni-Mo are dispersed in the matrix, and a sintered alloy having ≥7.2g/cm3 density is obtd. This alloy shows superior wear resistance at high temp., so it is suitable for use as a material for a valve seat such as the inlet valve of an engine used under severe conditions.
