Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the surface roughening resistance and wear resistance of the resulting titled roll by heat treating steel having a specified composition contg. C, Cr, Si, Mn, Mo, V and W after forging.
CONSTITUTION: Steel consisting of, by weight., 0.5W1.2% C, 2W6% Cr, 0.3W 1.2% Si, 0.2W1% Mn, 0.2W2% Mo, ≤1% V, ≤2% W and the balance Fe is forged and heat treated to obtain a forged steel hardening work roll for hot finish rolling. An adequate amount of carbide exists in the structure of this roll, and the carbide is fine in form and size and is dispersed. In addition, graphite causing a flow crack does not remain.
