Abstract
PURPOSE: Di(2-hydroxy-2-propyl)benzene and tert-butyl hydroperoxide is subjected to the reaction using a specific catalyst and a specific solvent, thus forming titled compound used as a polyolefin crosslinking agent.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction of 1mol of di(2-hydroxy-2-propyl)benzene (abbreviated to DC) with 2W3mol of tert-butyl hydroperoxide is conducted in 0.3W5pts.wt., of DC, of a hydrocarbon solvent such as hexane or heptane in the presence of a catalyst of synthetic silica-alumina, in which preferably the silica content is 50W 95wt%, the specific surface area is 350W600m2/g and the amount is 0.1W10wt% on the basis of the reaction mixture, at a temperature of 30W100°C to give di(2-tert- butylperoxy-2-propyl)benzene.
EFFECT: The process can produce the objective compound inexpensively with simple equipment.
