Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a composite sintered part for cutting tool, which is excellent in hardness, wear resistance, toughness, and corrosion resistance, by a procedure in which an intermediate layer of a carbide, nitride, boride, etc., of Ti is provided on the surface of a WC-based hard alloy sintered base material and then a cubic boron nitride crystal-based sintering material is provided on said intermediate layer and then sintered compositely. CONSTITUTION:A WC-based hard alloy sintering base material is put in a chemical vapor deposition reactor, where an intermediate layer composed of one or two or more TiC, TiN, TiB, and carbo-nitride of Ti, having a thickness of 0.001-0.05mm., is formed on the base material by a chemical vapor deposition method or an ion plating method, using Ti, Cl4, CH4, N2, H2, and BCl2. The base material so treated is, along with the fine particles of a cubic boron nitride-based sintering material containing Ta, Ti, etc., charged into a superhigh-pressure and high-temperature generator, where the cubic boron nitride-based material is sintered compositely at 1,200 deg.C or more and 40Kb or more. Thus, a compositely sintered part which is excellent in wear resistance, toughness, and corrosion resistance and also is suitable for cutting hard steel, Ni-based or Co-based supper alloy, etc., can be obtained.
