Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled carboxylic acid salt having cholesterol-bilsynthesis inhibiting, anti-arteriosclerotic, blood lipid depressing activites, etc., by culturing fungi belonging to Monascus genus and capable of producing MB-530 carboxylic acid metal salt, and extracting the salt from the cultured liquid.
CONSTITUTION: An MB-530 carboxylic acid metal salt of formula (M is metal such as Na, K, Ca, Mg, Al, Fe, Zn, Cu, Ni, Co, etc.; n is valence of the metal) is produced by the aerobic cultivation of fungi belonging to Monascus genus and capable of producing said carboxylic acid metal salt, e.g. Monascus rubber SANK15177, in a medium by conventional fungus cultivation process. If necessary, the medium is added with inorganic salts and metal salts, and the cultivation is carried out under aerobic conditions. After the completion of the cultivation, the filtrate of the medium is extracted with a hydrophobic solvent, and the fungal cells are extracted with a hydrophilic solvent to obtain crude MB-530 carboxylic acid metal salt, which is purified by conventional technique such as concentrarion, re-dissolving, etc. The purified product has higher activity and lower toxicity than the similar known medicine.
