Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid crystal display unit which has a large number of degrees of freedom for hue combinations and is supeior in design effect, by coloring the surface of the transparent electrode plate (or polarization plate).
CONSTITUTION: In the liquid crystal display unit formed by interposing liquid crystal 3 between upper and lower transparent electrode substrates 2 and 4 and by arranging upper and lower polarization plates 1 and 6 of neutral color in both sides of them, upper transparent electrode substrate 2 is colored with a proper color to form semitransparent colored part 7. The spray method is most suitable as the coloring method; and even if upper polarization plate 1 is colored instead of the surface of said transparent electrode substrate, the similar effect can be obtained.
