Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a Ti alloy which comprises Al, Mo, Cr and B at a prescribed ratio and the rest of Ti, and is appropriate to a steam turbine blade, a jet engine fan or the like required of excellent impact resistance and tensile strength.
CONSTITUTION: A Ti alloy is composed of 2.0W5.0wt% of Al, 1.0W9.0wt% of Mo, 6.1W9.0wt% of Cr and 0.001wt% of B and the rest of Ti and concomitant impurities. The Al, Mo and Cr within said quantities improve the impact resistance and tensile strength of the Ti alloy. The B within said quantity strengthens the grain boundary of the alloy to heighten its ductility. Since the main constituent of the alloy is Ti, the melting of the alloy needs to be performed under vacuum or an atmosphere of inert gas. The concomitant impurities are iron, exygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, etc. The purpose of this invention is attained if the oxygen content is 2,000ppm or less.
