Abstract
PURPOSE: To measure the thickness decreasing speed by a method wherein a monitoring test piece made of the same material as the outside wall of a structure and thinner than the outside wall is placed in an airtight condition within a hole penetrating through the outside wall, and the pressure change in a closed space formed on the back face of the test piece is detected.
CONSTITUTION: A test piece 2 and a pressure detector 5 are screwed, welded or soldered to an outer casing 7, and the detection terminal of the detector 5 is placed in a closed space 6 thus formed. The test piece 2 is made of the same material as the structure to be tested and is thinner than the outside wall of the structure. An adhesive may be filled in the screw-joint portion to prevent the fluid in the structure from leaking into the closed space. When the test piece 2 is destroyed due to corrosion or wear by the fluid in the structure, the pressure inside the closed space 6 changes and the pressure change is detected at the pressure detector 5 by the function of the detection terminal 3.
