NEW MATERIAL:A compound of the formula and a salt thereof.
USE: A preventive, a remedy and/or a treating agents for microbism caused by Gram- positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
PROCESS: A microorganism, Streptomyces sp. A271 (FERM-P No.3984) is incubated in a nutrient culture medium, e.g. a carbohydrate or nitrogen source, at 20W40°C, preferably 25W35°C, and pH4W9. Active components simultaneously produced in the culture are adsorbed by a polystyrene anion exchange resin, and the homologous component is eluted with an aqueous solution of an inorganic salt, e.g. common salt. The antibiotic PS-8 of the formula is then eluted with an aqueous solution of a polar solvent, e.g. a solution containing 0.1W10% an inorganic salt such as common salt in methanol.
