Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a highly stereoregular polymer which necessitates no separation of catalyst residue because of no mechanical crushing involved in the preparation of the catalyst, by use of a catalyst composed of a reaction product from a magnesium halide, an electron donor and a titanium halide, and of a specified organometallic compound.
CONSTITUTION: An olefin is polymerized by using, as a catalyst, the first component (A), primarily composed of a reaction product from a magnesium halide, an electron donor, an Al compound of formula I (wherein R is a 1W20C hydrocarbon; n is 1, 2 or 3), at least one chloride selected from those of S, Si, Sn and Al, and a titanium halide, and the second component (B), primarily composed of at least one organometallic compound of formula II [wherein B is a 1W6C hydrocarbon; n is 1, 2 or 3; C is H, halogen or -OR (wherein R is a 1W20C hydrocarbon)], formula III or IV [wherein M1 is an alkali metal; M2 is an alkaline earth metal; X is a 1W20C hydrocarbon; Y, Z and W are H, a halogen, a 1W20C hydrocarbon, -OR or -PR3 (where R is a 1W20C hydrocarbon)], or one to which is added an electron donor.
