Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the efficiency of hypochlorous acid generation by a method wherein turbulent flow is caused at least near the anode in an electrolytic process in which aqueous NaCl solution is being flowed and hypochlorous acid is generated.
CONSTITUTION: A method to form turbulent flow at least near an anode may include that a structure having elevations and depressions in the flow direction is placed between the anode and cathode, or anode itself is formed into such a structure. Preferably, plural elevations or depressions with unit length of 5W50cm are continuously arranged in the flow direction and liquid is flowed at 0.5W15m/sec. For example, an electrode I(A) is formed of plural, equidistant, parallel, square rod bodies 11 placed on the opposite face of a flat plate 13 so that grooves 15 are formed at right angle to the flow direction. Such electrode is used as anode A to face cathode C in an electrolytic tank B, electrolyte L is circulated by pump P, current is applied to the conductor ends A1 and C1 to generate hypochlorous acid. In this manner, the generation efficiency is increased by 5W10%.
