Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound having an antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic actions, by reacting an ester derivative of 2-[4-(2'-acetylphenoxy) phenyl]propionic acid with sulfur and a secondary amine, and hydrolyzing and cyclizing the reaction product.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of (A) a compound of formula II (R1 is 1W3C alkyl; R2 is 1W6C alkyl) with (B) sulfur in a molar amount of 1W3 times that of the compound of formula II and (C) a secondary amine, e.g. dimethylamine or morpholine, of the formula HNR3R4 (R3 and R4 are 1W3C alkyls or may form a heterocyclic ring with the adjacent N atom) is heated at 100W160°C to give a compound of formula IV, which is then hydrolyzed by the conventional method to form a dicarboxylic acid of formula V. The dicarboxylic acid thus obtained is isolated, purified and then cyclized in the presence of a condensing agent, e.g. polyphosphoric acid or hydrogen fluoride, to afford a dibenz[b,f]oxepin derivative of formula I.
