Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively perform cleaning of pin electrodes by causing electric discharge between the pin electrodes and themselves or between the pin electrodes and auxiliary electrodes while the electrostatic latent images by the pin electrodes are not being formed. CONSTITUTION:A minute clearance is maintained between pin electrodes 3 and a dielectric layer 2, and electric discharge is generated between the pin electrodes 3 and the dielectric layer 2 by the voltage applied from a pulse voltage generating source 7 according to the images to be recorded, whereby the electrostatic latent images are formed on the dielectric layer 2. At this time, the voltage from the voltage generating source 7 is selected at such a value at which no electric discharge occurs between the pin electrodes 3 and themselves. The multiple pin electrodes 3 arranged to one row at predetermined intervals are commonly connected to every other electrodes and such a voltage at which electric discharge is caused between the pins is applied between two groups of these pin electrodes from the voltage generating source 8, whereby electric discharge is generated between the respective pins to scatter the deposits on the pin electrode surfaces and restore the function of the electrodes.
