Abstract

PURPOSE: To dehydrate brown coal efficiretly, by a method wherein brown coal is mixed with a hydrocarbon oil, the mixt. is heated to remove water present in the brown coal, and the resulting mixed compsn. of dehydrated brown coal and the hydrocarbon oil is introduced into a concentrator to remove the remaining water.
CONSTITUTION: Brown coal is mixed with a hydrocarbon oil having a specific gravity greater than that of water in a mixing tank 1. The mixt. is heated at a temp. of 100W350°C in a heater 4 and introduced into a gravity separating tank 5 which is kept under pressure not lower than the saturated vapor pressure of water at a temp. at which the mixt. is heated. Water (a) present in the brown coal is separated from the upper part of the gravity separating tank 5 to obtain a mixed compsn. (c) of the dehydrated brown coal and the hydrocarbon oil. Then the mixed compsn. (c) is introduced into a concentrator 8 where the remaining water and part of the hydrocarbon oil are removed to obtain the desired mixed compsn. of the dehydrated brown coal and the hydrocarbon oil. As the hydrocarbon oil, creosote oil is suitably used.
