Abstract

PURPOSE: Titled fiber that is produced by adding a crosslinking compound to an aromatic polyamide polymer and treating with heat, ultraviolet or electronic rays, thus having improved solvent resistance and high heat resistance.
CONSTITUTION: (A) An aromatic polyamide polymer preferably containing more than 75mol% of aromatic polyamide, e.g., m-phenyleneisophthalamide polymer is combined with (B) a crosslinking compound such as a compound bearing 2 or more substituted or unsubstituted allyl groups in the molecule and their fiber is treated with heat, ultraviolet rays and/or electronic rays so that the resultant fiber is made insoluble in a salt-containing polar amide solvent. The crosslinking compound is preferably one of formulaI(E is formula II, III) such as a triglycidylisocyanurate. The crosslinking treatment is effected by irradiating with heat at 110W310°C, with ultraviolet rays from a 2kW lamp for more than 30sec or with electronic rays of 0.5Mrad.
