Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain anthraquinone dye industrially advantageously capable of dyeing organic materials, e.g. synthetic fibers, plastics, etc. in brilliant blue, by reacting dinitroanthrarufin with an aniline.
CONSTITUTION: 4,8-Dinitroanthrarufin is reacted under heating with an aniline (e.g., aniline, o-, m-, p-chloroaniline, etc.) shown by the formula I (a group shown by the formula II is 1W8C alkyl, 1W8C alkoxy, 3W8C alkoxyalkoxy, 5W10 alkoxyalkoxyalkoxy, optionally chlorine- or bromine-containing benzene ring) occasionally in the presence of an inert solvent, e.g., xylene, etc., preferably at 150W230°C for 1W10hr, to give the desired anthraquinone dye shown by the formula III.
