Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An anthraquinone compound of the formula I (where R is a C5W C15 alkyl or cyclohexyl group).
USE: A dichromic dye for liquid crystal, a disperse dye for synthetic fibers, and a colorant dye for synthetic resins.
PREPARATION: An objective compound is obtained by a procedure in which 1,5- dihydroxy-4,8-dinitro-anthraquinone is reacted with an alkoxyphenyl compound of the formula II in the presence of boric acid and an acid condensing agent, boric ester group is saponified, and then the remaining nitro group is reduced. In this case, the reaction of the boric ester 1,5-dihydroxy-4,8-dinitro-anthraquinone with an alkoxyphenyl compound is carried out preferably at a low temperature, particularly at 0°C or lower. And, solvent used includes sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, and organic solvents.
