Abstract
PURPOSE: A liquid crystal composition for electrooptic display element that contains a specific phenyl benzoate, thus having a negative dielectric anisotropy and permitting the low-voltage driving when used in a positive-type G.H.-liquid crystal and being suitably used for chronometers because of its high stability for a long period of time.
CONSTITUTION: The objective liquid crystal composition contains at least one of phenyl benzoates of formula I (R, R' are 1W8C straight chain alkyl) such as a compound of formula II. When necessary, further addition of d-4-(2-methyl-butyl)-4'- cyanobiphenyl as an optically activator in a trace amount is preferred, because the response speed is increased.
EFFECT: 6V-driving is enough possible.
