Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a nematic liquid crystal composition for field-effect liquid crystal display device, having positive dielectric anisotropy, capable of being driven by low-voltage time-sharing driving with excellent responsiveness, by using two kinds of compounds having specific structural formulas as active components.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition contains at least (A) a compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are 1W6C straight-chain alkyl; pref. R1 and R2 are n-C3H7 and n-C4H9 or n-C3H7 and n-C5H11, etc., respectively) and (B) a compound of formula II (R3 is 1W6C straight-chain alkyl; R4 is 1W5C straight-chain alkyl, alkoxy or cyano; pref. R3 and R4 are n-C4H9 and n-C4H9 or n-C3H7 and CH3, etc., respectively). Preferably, the concentration of the component (A) is 10W30wt%, and the amount of the component (B) to be added is 10wt%.
