Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve the safety and better operating charactericstic of the optical guide of high output laser by effectively cooling the fiber by making use of the high heat transfer characteristic of heat pipe principle. CONSTITUTION:When part of a fiber 4 is heated by laser light owing to defect or the like, the working fluid in the wick 2 near said portion (x) mark evaporates and the heat evolved is immediately cooled by the heat of evaporation. The vapor propagates in the spacing O in the pipe and when it reaches the portion C cooled by a heat radiator 5, it liquefies and it penetrates in the wick near the same and owing to the capillarity of the wick, the working fluid again infilters into the evaporated portion. This cooling effect is high and even if the fiber evolves heat, it is immediately cooled and the failure of the fiber does not occur. Here, this is used by connecting one end 4a of the photoconducting fiber 4 to a laser light source 6 by way of a connecting part 7 and mounting a handpiece 8 of a laser knife, laser-working laser torch or the like to the other end 4b.
