Abstract

PURPOSE: A lubricating oil composition which serves well in reducing a coefficient of friction between contact surfaces and heat generation thereat, prepared by mixing a specified solid lubricant and a specified dispersant.
CONSTITUTION: Substantially spherical, optically anisotropic, small particles having 0.1W100μ particle diameter, are prepared by heat-treating pitch (such as a petroleum-derived heavy distillate or a heavy distillate derived from a dry distillation liquid of cool) at about 350W500°C and treating the heat-treated product with a solvent such as quinoline thereby to render the product insoluble. Then, the lubricating oil composition is prepared by mixing 100pts.wt. of a liquid lubricating oil to which about 0.5W10wt% of said anisotropic particles are added as a solid lubricant, with about 0.1W15pts.wt. of a dispersant such as carboxymethyl cellulose, an inorganic ammonium salt or gum arabic.
