Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound in high conversion and purity, from a isobutene-containing C4 fraction and methanol, by selecting the molar ratio of the raw materials, and the contents of the objective compound and methanol in the reaction within specific ranges.
CONSTITUTION: The reactor 6 is supplied with a C4 fraction through the line 1, methanol through the line 2, and side-cut from the middle part of the distillation column 7 through the line 3. The molar ratio of isobutene/methanol is adjusted to 0.5W1.5. The reaction is carried out keeping the conversion of isobutene to methyl t-butyl ether (MTBE) within the range of 40W99%, and maintaining the ratios of MTBE/methanol and methanol/C4-fraction in the liquid at the outlet of the reactor above the ratios in the corresponding azeotropic compositions. The outlet liquid is fed to the distillation column 7, and distilled under a pressure above atmospheric pressure at a reflux ratio of ≥0.3. The C4-fraction is obtaind from the top of the column, the MTBE from the bottom, and the side-cut composed of concentrated methanol, MTBE and the C4-fraction is extracted from the middle part of the column.
