Abstract
PURPOSE: Titled water-soluble polymer, suitable as an antistatic agent, a clarifier for plant waste water, etc., prepared by the reaction of a copolymer of a specified (meth)acrylamide derivative and a monomer having a carbamoyl group, with formaldehyde and a secondary amine.
CONSTITUTION: A copolymer (A) is obtained, by copolymerizing (a) a (meth) acrylamide derivative of formula I (wherein R1 is H or CH3: R2, R3 and R4 are methyl or ethyl: X- is anion: n is 2W3), with (b) a monomer having a carbamoyl group, such as (meth)acrylamide. Then titled polymer is obtained by reacting formaldehyde (B) and a secondary amine (C) of formula II (wherein R5 and R6 are 1W5C alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, etc.) such as dimethylamine or piperidine, with copolymer (A), at about 25W70°C.
