Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An MB-530B carboxylic acid ester of formula (R is alkyl, benzyl which may be substituted with alkyl, alkoxy or halogen, or phenacyl which may be substituted with alkyl, alkoxy or halogen).
EXAMPLE: MB-530B carboxylic acid methyl ester.
USE: It is effective to inhibit the synthesis of cholesterol and depress the lipid level in blood, and is useful, e.g. as an antilipemic agent, anti-arteriosclerotic agent, etc. It is preferably administered orally.
PROCESS: The compound of the formula is prepared by reacting an alcohol with MB-530B obtained by culturing MB-530B-producing bacteria belonging to Monascus genus, e.g. Monascus anca SANK 10171 (IFO 6540), etc.
