Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the high rate discharge performance of a battery including a paste type negative plate by attaching an additive such as lignin on the surface of paste of said plate in such a manner that the concentration of the additive is increased from the inside toward the surface of the plate.
CONSTITUTION: A negative plate for a lead acid battery is produced by applying a paste the main component of which is lead oxide, on a grid. When, an additives powder mixture of materials such as lignin, barium, and carbon is attached on the plate surface in a quantity two times that included in the paste, thereby the concentration of the additive is higher toward the surface. The blowing method utilizing compressed air, spraying method of an aqueous suspension, and coating method is suitable as a method for applying the powder mixture.
