Abstract
PURPOSE: Titled catalyst which is highly active and makes it possible to control MW distribution over a wide range, prepared by combining an organometallic compound with a solid product obtained by contacting a transition metal compound with a specified magnesium halide type base solid.
CONSTITUTION: A base solid (K) is synthesized by reacting (1) a hydrocarbon medium-soluble organomagnesium compound represented by the formula, wherein R is n-C4H9, n-C3H7 or C2H5, X is an O, N or S-containing electronegative group, D is an organometallic compound (metal alkoxide) containing Al, B, Be, Zn, Si or Li, a and b are each 0W2, e is 0W1, a+b+c+2 and p is 0W0.1, with (2) a halogenated hydrocarbon containing a -CZ3 group ( Z is halogen). Then, the base solid (K) is combined with a titanium or vanadium halide to produce a solid catalyst (A). The solid catalyst (A) is, then, combined with an organometallic compound (B) to produce the polymerization catalyst.
