Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled sheet having a dense surface suited to a leather substitute leather, by a method wherein the surface of a substrate is treated with an organic solvent solution of a polyurethane resin added with a specific polyoxyethylene ether and is subjected to a wet coagulation process using a non-solvent.
CONSTITUTION: A treating solution is provided by adding 0.1W200pts.wt. of a polyoxyethylene ether of the formula (R and R': a 4C or higher acyl gp. or a 4C or bigher hydrocarbon group; n: 2W50) to an organic solvent solution contg. 100pts. wt. of a polymer essentially consisting of a linear thermoplstic polyurethane. Coating or impregnatation is used to apply this treating solution to the surface treatment of a substrate (e.g. natural or synthetic fiber cloth, or paper). The treated substrate is dipped in a nonsolvent which is compatible with the above organic solvent but is imcompatible with the above polymer. alternatively, the substrate is exposed to the vapor of the nonsolvent. In either case, the organic solvent is extracted to cause coagulation so that a porous sheet is provided.
EFFECT: A flexible sheet having a strong and smooth surface is provided.
