PROCESS: 2,3-Bis(diphenylphosphoryl)glycerol-1-phenyl ether is reduced (subjected to hydrogenolysis) in the presence of a platinum catalyst, e.g. platinum oxide, in a solvent, e.g. ethanol, methanol or acetic acid, at 20W70°C, preferably 20W 30°C, to give the titled compound of the formula, which is then treated with barium hydroxide or an organic amine ro afford a barium salt or organic amine salt in the form of crystalline power. The salt can be converted into another suitable salt, e.g. lithium, sodium, potassium or cyclohexylamine salt, by treating the salt with an ion exchange resin.
