Abstract

PURPOSE: To suppress an influence of bar code print precision and fluctuations of a scanning speed, by analyzing the module constitution of successively scanned unit bars.
CONSTITUTION: Light from light emission body 12 is caused to strike bar code symbols 10 and reflected light that varies corresponding to respective widths of a white bar and black bar in terms of time is received by photoelectric element 13. The output of photoelectric element 13 is converted into a decimal number by analyzer 16. On the basis of the number and width of modules constituting a one- unit bar code scanned immediately before, analyzer 16 calculates the number and width of constituents of the corresponding one-unit module to make an analysis. Then, fluctuations of the scanning speed of a manual hand scanner and print precision of bar codes can be suppressed to reduce read errors.
