Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform character detection and separation by using dotted character frames printed in nondropout color.
CONSTITUTION: Character frame 8 and character 9 are quantized by photoelectric converting circuit 1. On the basis of height H and width W of character frame 8, space Z, between individual characters and character pitch P, character frame detecting circuit 3 detects character frame 8. A character frame detection signal is supplied to noise cutting circuit 3, abnormality detecting circuit 5 and position correcting circuit 7. On the basis of H and W, abnormality detecting circuit 5 generates a read refusal signal when the input is greater than a prescribed value and position correcting circuit 7 feeds a signal for a character frame trace back to photoelectric converting circuit 1. A character pattern passed through noise buffer 4 is supplied to character discriminating circuit 6, which specifies the character. Thus, character frame 8 can be detected by only photoelectric converting circuit 1.
