Abstract
PURPOSE:To quietly and smoothly operate an engine of overhead cam shaft type, by providing mechanisms for automatically displacing a rocker arm and for contacting a valve stem to the rocker arm. CONSTITUTION:In a cylinder heat 1 of an engine, rocker arms 10a, 10b and an intake valve 43 are provided. When the engine is rotated at high speed, by the action of pressure oil in an upper pressure oil chamber K and lower pressure oil chamber M a belleville spring 52 is not bent, and this causes an end spherical surface 53' of a plunger 53 to be adapted to a stem end surface 43' of the intake valve 43 without a clearance. When the engine is operated at low speed, a piston 50 is pressed upward and a plunger 51 ia shifted downward. Then the belleville spring 52 keeps a contact between the spherical surface 53' and the end surface 43'. In this way, the level of engine noise can be lowered.
