Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the production of a pellet which has an improved mechanical strength, by a method wherein line strands, each of which converges a large number of single fibers, are arranged within the inside of the pellet in parallel along the axial direction over the full length, and short fibers are arranged in such a state as disperses them evenly within the inside of the pellet. CONSTITUTION:A line strand 1 converges several tens-thousands of single fibers, each of which measures 2-20mu in diameter. The line strands 1 are fed into a mold 4, and are covered with the mixture of molten thermoplastic resins fed from an extruder 2 and short fibers not exceeding 1mm. in length. Resin composition thus obtained is then drawn in a line by a drawing device 6, and is cut in lengthes of about 1-10mm. each. Glass fibers, carbon fibers, etc. are suitable for use as a single fiber. This enables the production of a reinforced resin thermoplastic pellet 10, measuring about 2-8mm. in outer diameter, which is constituted such that line strands 8 are arranged within the inside of the pellet 10 in parallel along the axial direction over the full length and short fibers are dispersed uniformly at the inside of the pellet 10.
