Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled latex, capable of giving a film with the boiling whitening in the heat-sealed part prevented, without degrading the coating performance, and film-forming and gas barrier properties, by mixing a small amount of a high-melting vinylidene chloride polymer in a latex state with a copolymer latex.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. (solid content) of a latex comprising a copolymer consisting of 85W94wt% vinylidene chloride and 6W15wt% at least one copolymerizable monomer is incorporated with 0.3W20pts.wt., preferably 1.0W3.0pts.wt., of a latex containing a high-melting polymer (P) consisting of 94W100wt% vinylidene chloride and 0W6wt% a copolymerizable monomer in a latex state. A polymer of particle size ≤500Å in a latex obtained by emulsion polymerization with a larger amount of an emulsifier than in the conventional one is preferably used as P. The polymer (P) acts as a nucleating agent and prevents the whitening due to the rapid crystallization resulting from the heating in boiling.
