Abstract

PURPOSE: To accurately manufacture a shaft having a spherical part, through a small number of steps, by placing a cylindrical pipe piece on an appropriate section of a basic shaft, pressing the pipe piece to spherically shape it and tightening and fixing both the open ends of the pipe piece on the basic shaft.
CONSTITUTION: To manufacture a shaft 1 having a spherical part (spherical shell) 3, a basic shaft 2 is firstly positioned in the center of a cylindrical guide 8. The portion of the basic shaft 2 corresponding to the spherical part 3 is located in a position opposed to a holding means 9, which is attached to the guide 8 so that the holding means 9 can be moved in and out. A cylindrical pipe piece 10 is laid around the basic shaft 2. The holding means 9 is protruded from the guide 8 to holt it. Two press dies 12A, 12B are slidably fitted in the guide 8. The holding means 9 is retracted while the press dies 12A, 12B are thrusted in such directions that they approach each other. The pipe piece 10 is thus shaped to make the spherical shell 3. At that time, both the sides of the spherical shell 3 are provided with flat surfaces 5 and the ends 6 of the shell 3 are tightened and fixed on the peripheral surface of the basic shaft 2.
