Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the quality of an image and the printing resistance of a lithographic plate, when the plate is manufactured by applying a silver complex salt diffusion transfer (DTR) method, by carrying out DTR processing in the presence of thiosalicylic acid or a thiosalicyclic acid forming compound and a cyclic imide compound. CONSTITUTION:A compound such as 5,5-dialkylhydantoin represented by formula I (where Z is a group of atoms forming a 5- or 6-membered cyclic imido ring consisting of 1-3N atoms and the balance C atoms, and the atoms may have substituents) and thiosalicylic acid or a thiosalicyclic acid forming compound such as the compound of formula II are added together or separately to silver halide photographic material or a DTR developer. The cyclic imide compound is added to one or more among the physical developing nucleus layer, the silver halide emulsion layer and other layer of the material, or it is added to the developer. The combination of thiosalicyclic acid and the cyclic imide compound results in superior ink receivability and printing resistance.
