Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease the number of parts and obtain Kanji (Chinese character) input device which is inexpensive and small-sized, by substituting a display unit by at least one of the character board and the keyboard, and indicating a character displayed on the display device by means of a light pen.
CONSTITUTION: In accordance with a program written in the memory 16, the processing unit 11 loads an administration program from the input/output unit 18, reads out each character and a pattern of the control key from the character pattern generation part 17, and writes them in the refresh memory. A data which has been read out from the memory 15 is provided to the display unit 12 as a scanning video signal by the control part 14, and the character board and the keyboard having the control keys are displayed. Subsequently, when the character and control information which has been displayed is indicated with a light pen 13, it is output to the unit 18 as a character code. In this way, since both the character board and the keyboard are displayed on the unit 12 and can be substituted, the inexpensive and small-sized unit can be obtained.
