Abstract

PURPOSE: To automatically keep constant the gap between the inside surface of a drum and a lining due to the wear of a brake shoe, by securing on a brake panel a gear stopper which allows an adjusting gear to rotate only in the direction of braking.
CONSTITUTION: The butts 5a, 5'a of brake shoes 5, 5' are pivoted to the inside surface of a brake panel 1 by an anchor pin 6. One end of a clutch spring 16 is secured on a brake arm 11. The spring 16 is wound around a shaft 10a so that only the turning force of the arm 11 in the direction of braking is transmitted to a cam shaft 10a. A gear section 18 is provided on the peripheral portion 17b of an adjusting gear 17. A gear stopper 19 is engaged with the gear section 18 to adjust a braking gap. As a result, compensation is automatically effected through a simple construction to keep the braking gap constant.
