PURPOSE:To improve the input power factor of the cyclo converter by maintaining the phase input signal for determining the ignition timing of a thyristor sequentially constant during 1/3 of load current half period. CONSTITUTION:The cyclo converter 2 which includes thyristor converters capable of being controlled by currents is provided in each of three-phase star connected AC loads 3. The phase input signals pHU', pHV', pHW' for determining the firing timing of the respective phase thyristors are sequentially set constantly to 1/3 of the half period of the load currents IU, IV, IW, respectively, and the load current value is controlled by other two phases during this period. Thus, the load current is so set that the phase input is large in the vicinity of the peak, that is, the control delay angle is minimum, the phase input power factor is maximum, and the composite power factor of all the phases can be impoved.
