Abstract
PURPOSE:To determine the deflection quantity of charged ink particles suitably by a method wherein a charge detecting electrode which detects only the particles with the specified trajectory among those charged and deflected is provided in a gutter. CONSTITUTION:A detection voltage with the same polarity or the one opposite to the charged voltage at the time of recording unequaled to the charged voltage level at the time of recording is applied from negative and positive phase amplifiers 18b, 18c to a charging electrode 6, so that the ink to be separated into particles is charged within the range of nonrecording. On the other hand, a charge detecting electrode 10 installed within a gutter 9 for catching nonrecording ink particles is allowed to detect the arrival of the ink with ink particles charged within the range of nonrecording and the specified trajectory out of those jetted from a nozzle 5 to recording paper 8 via the electrode 6 and a deflection electrode 7. Then the first-n combinations of phase detection pulses are made to output in sequence from a phase setting circuit 20. When the electrode 10 has detected the arrival of charged ink particles, it sends the detected signal to a sequence controller 16 and fixes the counter code of a counter 21.
