Abstract

PURPOSE: A composite cutting body which consists in sintering boron nitride of cubic system and/or wurtzite type on a base material comprising superhard alloy with specific metals as a binder under extra high pressure and high temp. and which is suited for intermittent, high speed milling for high hardness materials to be cut.
CONSTITUTION: This composite cutting body 1 is formed of a polycrystalline sintered body 2 of boron nitride of cubic system or the like and a base plate 3 of superhard alloy of WC-Co base or the like. The sintered body 2 consists in converting 70W95vol%. said boron nitride together with the remaining binder through sintering under extra high pressure and high temp., and the bottom face and rear side face thereof have been secured at the sintering, within the step part 4 of the base plate 3. In addition, the binder for said boron nitride is formed of an alloy of Nb and/or Mo and Al or an intermetallic compound. Or the one in which ≤50% said alloy or intermetallic compound is substituted with one or more kinds of carbide, nitride and boride of periodic table IV, V, VI group metals or Al2O3, for example, WC, Mo2N, TiB2, etc. are used for the binder for said boron nitride.
