Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate occurrences of temper color caused by oxidation of steel band, by passing through and cooling steel band while discharging the atmospheric gas containing dissolved O2 from the throat to the outside, when the steel band is cooled with a water cooling device connected to the throat. CONSTITUTION:Steel band 2 continuously annealed at annealing furnace 1 passes through throat 5 after it is gas-cooled to about 300 deg.C, and cooled by spray 8 and quench tank 3 and then dried by dryer 10. Steam produced by the quenching at this time is prevented from entering into furnace 1 by seal roll 18 and gas seal device 19 (usually using N2 gas), and, at the same time, O2 gas produced by the quenching is discharged to the outside of throat 5 by suction blower 16 and eliminator 17 (for removing steam) and thus oxidation of steel plate 2 is prevented. When a reducing gas, such as NH3 is used at said roll seal 18 and gas seal device 19, effective prevention of oxidation of steel plate 2 can be ensured.
