PURPOSE:To enable control of speeds of the induction motor in multiple stages by reducing stepwisely the frequency from the vicinity of the power source frequency to the one- half thereof with 6-phase power source and bidirectional controlled rectifier. CONSTITUTION:A set of bidirectional controlled rectifiers 3 are connected to a transformer 2 for converting the AC power source 1 into 6-phase power source. 3- phase outputs of 2pi/3 phase difference of the outputs of the transformer and the 3- phase outputs of the reverse phases thereof are converted through the rectifiers 3 at a period higher than the twice the period of the power source. The converting control phase revolution of the bidirectional controller is inverted from the power source phase revolution, thereby obtaining the stepwise frequencies from the vicinity of the power source frequency to the one-half of the power frequency and thereby controlling the operation of the motor. Since the controlled rectifiers are switched and controlled at the zero points of the respective phases in this manner, it does not require specific commutating circuit.
