Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the surface smoothness, heat resistance and durability of a magnetic layer, by using both copolymized polyester containing metallic sulphonate group and the urethane prepolymer as the binder of the magnetic layer and thus improving dispersing and filling properties of the magnetic powder.
CONSTITUTION: The magnetic recording medium contains the magnetic layer containing the following materials as the binder of the magnetic layer: the copolymerized polyester resin containing metallic sulphonate group which is obtained by polymerizing the component containing the metallic sulphonate group such as 5-sodium sulfo-isophthalate or the like into the polyester resin, and the urethane prepolymer which is the straight chain type low molecular weight urethane resin having the free isocyanate group at the both terminals. Owing to the excellent surface smoothness of the magnetic layer, this recording medium has a higher video SN ratio in comparison with the ordinary video tape. At the same time, the chroma output is high owing to the enhanced dispersing and filling properties of the magnetic powder, thus ensuring a high durability. Thus the low-temperature stiffness property can also be increased.
