Abstract
PURPOSE: To inexpensive metallic material for storing hydrogen capable of preserving hydrogen in high density safely, comprising a Ti-Cr alloy having a specific composition.
CONSTITUTION: Pure metals of Ti and Cr are subjected to argon arc dissolution to gove a metallic material for storing hydrogen consisting of an alloy xTi-yCr (x and y are atom %, x=30W40, y=70W60, x+y is 100). The metallic material is fed to a pressure reactor and air and others in the reactor are discharged, and a hydrogen pressure oneWsome ten kg/cm2 at normal temperature is applied to form a hydride of xTi-yCr, which stores hydrogen in it. The metallic material absorbs hydrogen instantly, has higher absorbing power of hydrogen, and operating conditions, e.g., hydrogen absorbing pressure, hydrogen jetting temperature, hydrogen jetting pressure, etc. can be considerably changed into milder ones than those of conventional Ti, Zr, alloy of FeTi, Ti-Cu, etc. Both hydrogen absorption and hydrogen discharge are carried out extremely quickly.
