Abstract
PURPOSE: To separate and draw fresh water from sea water continuously with a simple apparatus by cleaning the inside surfaces of reverse osmotic membranes with a rotary cleaner at the time of desalting sea water by using the cylindrical reverse osmotic membranes as filter media.
CONSTITUTION: Reverse osmotic membranes 2 are disposed to a round cylindrical shape on the inner side of an outside cylinder 1 by means of a frame body 3. The space formed by the outside cylinder 1, the reverse osmotic membranes and the frame body 3 is tightly closed at the bottom to form a fresh water recovering chamber 4. In addition, a funnel-shaped solids collecting tank 5 is secured to the bottom end of the frame body 3, and while a cleaner is allowed to contact with the inside surfaces of the cylindrical reverse osmotic membranes, it is rotated at high speeds by an arm 9 and a rotating shaft 8. The salt water fed through a salt water lead-in pipe 7 is separated to fresh water by the membranes 2 and enters the chamber 4, from which it is recovered through a take-out port 13. At this time, the sea water rotates in the same direction as the cleaner 10 rotates, and the filtration of the sea water is accelerated by the centrifugal force developed by this; in addition, the membranes 2 are cleaned to maintain the filtration by reverse osmosis longer. The salt content and inclusions gathered in the tank 5 are separated from the sea water by elastic rollers 22a, 22b and are discharged.
