Abstract
PURPOSE: A water-containing coal powder is washed with hydrocarbon oil containing an amphoteric surfactant to separate water efficiently, whereby the coal powder is used directly or to be mixed with petroleum as a fuel.
CONSTITUTION: An amphoteric surfactant such as a betain, sulfobetain or aminoacid type is dissolved in a hydrocarbon oil such as light oil or kerosine by 0.01W 10wt% to prepare the cleaning agent. When it is hard soluble, the surfactant is previously dissolved in a polar solvent such as alcohol and added. Then, water-containing coal powder is placed in a vessel equipped with a filter at the bottom part and the cleaning agent is added thereto, whereby the cleaning operations are conducted. The operation is effected preferably under heating. The amphoteric surfactant is, e.g., a compound of formula I (R, R', and R" are 1W24C alkyl, alkenyl, of which at least one is 8W24C) or formula II (n is 2, 3).
