Abstract

PURPOSE: To granulate a coal containing fine pulverized coal in water with a small amount of a binding oil at a low cost, by adding an oil as a binder and a specific ethoxylated amine as a binding assistant to an aqueous slurry of the coal without emulsifying the oil.
CONSTITUTION: Preferably 0.01W1wt% ethoxylated amine surfactant, e.g. ethylene oxide adduct of laurylamine, of the formula (R is 8W22C aliphatic group; m and n are ≥1, and m+n is 3W15) as a binding assistant and an oil as a binder in an amount of preferably 2W5wt% are added to an aqueous slurry of a coal containing fine pulverized coal, preferably with a coal content of 25W50wt%, without emulsifying the oil, and the mixing operation is carried out to granulate the coal in water. Preferably, the binding assistant is added to the aqueous slurry before the addition of the binding oil if the assistant is soluble in water. An oil-soluble asistant is preferably dissolved in the binding oil and added to the aqueous slurry of the coal.
