Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a molding material, insoluble in water, acids, alkalies or organic solvents and useful as a separation material, a dialysis material, base material for an immobilized enzyme or an adsorbent, by treating a de-N-acetylated chitin derivative with an acylating agent.
CONSTITUTION: A de-N-acetylated glycolchitin, glyceride chitin, methylchitin or ethylchitin, soluble in an aqueous solvent, for example, a dilute aqueous solution of acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, etc., is treated with an acylating agent, if necessary, further with a crosslindking agent. The acylating agent is a carboxylic anhydride or a mixture of the anhydride with an organic acid. The organic acid and the carboxylic anhydride are preferably acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, valeric acid, etc, and their anhydrie. Degree of de-N-acetylation is 10W100%, preferably 20W60% for glycolchitin and glyceride chitin, and 50W100%, preferably 50W90% for methylchitin and ethylchitin.
