Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance reliability and safety of a drum type or reciprocating type electrophotographic copying machine, by detecting abnormality of timing signals as the base for forming control signals. CONSTITUTION:A signal-producing source, such as a magnetic tape with pulse signals recorded at equal intervals is provided on a rotary body for driving a photoreceptor, such as photosensitive drum 4. Signals from this source is detected, amplified, and shaped with detecting circuit 18 to form timing pulses, and further, verious kinds of control signals are formed in control signal forming circuit 21. Fail-safe circuit 20 is provided, and receives the output of circuit 18 to detect whether the time length of each timing pulse is normal or not. When abnormality is detected, circuit 20 displays the abnormality and stops the outputs of control signals, thus permitting reliability and safety of the copier to be enhanced.
