Abstract
PURPOSE: To absorb glycyrrhizin with certainty and purify it with water as an eluent industrially and advantageously, by bringing a solution of a licorice extract into contact with an acrylic ester polymer resin having amino groups and a giant network structure.
CONSTITUTION: A solution of a licorice extract is brought into contact with an acrylic ester polymer resin having amino groups, preferably tertiary amine alone or mainly the tertiary amine and further one or more primary amines, secondary amines and quaternary ammonium salts, and a giant network structure showing the physical adsorptivity, e.g. van der Waals force, preferably Duolite A-374 (trade name, manufactured by Diamond Shamrock Co.) to adsorb the glycyrrhizin contained in the extract on the resin. The resin is then taken out and treated with an aqueous medium, e.g. an alkaline aqueous solution, to elute the glycyrrhizin.
